There are various organisms which are not visible to naked eyes of human beings,they are called as microorganisms......

One such microorganisms is NEMATODES

What is nematode ? 

               It is a Greek word 'nema' means thread and 'oides' means like . Hence a thread like or worm like organism is called nematodes.

Nematology - study of nematodes.

            Branch of nematology deals with animal parasite is called as Helminthology.

            Branch of nematology deals with plant parasite is called as Pytonematology.

ECONOMIC LOSSES OF PLANT PARASITIC NEMATODE(PNP) :

       * Seed gall nematode - Anguina tritici - Ear cockle disease in Wheat - loss of 10000 tonnes of grain per year.

       * Golden cyst nematode - Globodera   rostochinensis - Potato - serious problem in nilgiris and Kodaikanal hills.

       * Root lesion nematode - Pratylenches coffea - Coffee

    2) BUTLER - Reported root knot nematode in coffee in Kerala (1906)
