Sericulture is the mass rearing of silkworm for production of silk.

  • Natural protein fibre composed of fibroin and sericin.
  • Produced by certain larva(lepidopterous) to form coccons.
  • 95% produced from mulberry silkworm 

TYPES OF SILKWORM:

1.Mulberry silkworm-bombyx mori 

Bombyx mori caterpillare & moth

2.Non Mulberry silkworm 

           Eri silkworm (Samia ricini)

Eri silk worms eat Lahoon leaves

           Tasar silkworm (Antheraea mylitta)
